How long is each session and how often should I come?

Each session is 30 minutes in total. 57 minutes of sauna and 11 minutes of cold plunge per week is recommended to see results. While this equates to 3 Contrast sessions per week, the more often you come, the greater stimulus you will receive. Additional time is available to purchase if you prefer more than 30 minutes.

What type of saunas does Contrast use?

We use Sunlighten’s hand-crafted 2-person infrared saunas; the safest saunas on the market!

Is infrared safe? Does it contain EMF?

Yes! Our saunas use the most effective and safe infrared heaters on the market. The EMF and ELF levels in our infrared saunas will be mostly below 1mg when tested directly on the heater itself. Where you are sitting in the sauna, the EMF and ELF levels of infrared saunas are 0 mG and under 200 mV (ELF) of exposure. The ELF levels in our saunas are 3 – 5 times below the threshold of concern.

What is color light therapy and do you have red light?

Color Light Therapy is a method of treatment that uses the visible spectrum (colors) of electromagnetic light to restore balance to one’s physiology. It is a centuries-old concept used successfully over the years to treat various diseases and ailments.

Is there a sauna protocol I should follow?

Proper sauna and plunge tub use is important; just like you warm up and prepare your body before a workout, there are a few basic steps you should take to guarantee maximum benefit out of your contrast therapy sessions.

  • Drink a minimum of 8 oz. of water to prepare for an increase in core body temperature.
  • Remove all jewelry and makeup prior to arriving at the studio. Both may cause burning of the skin when exposed to extreme heat.
  • Keep the tech at home! Extreme temperatures may damage electronic devices.

What are your sauna cleaning and sanitation protocols?

Due to the infrared light and cedar wood, our saunas are naturally antimicrobial, antibacterial, and antifungal. All rooms are cleaned by the Contrast Studio staff with Sunlighten sauna patented compounds after every use.

What type of ice bath does Contrast use?

We use Plunge’s XL Cold Plunge tubs to ensure the highest quality and comfort.

How cold is the temperature of the water?

The water can get down to 39 degrees, we like to keep our plunges at an average temperature between 45-55 degrees Fahrenheit.

What are your Cold Plunge cleaning and sanitation protocols?

Contrast Studio staff inspect the water PH daily. We use the only chlorine-free, bromine-free product on the market, Sirona Spa® System, to ensure optimal PH levels at all times.

Do I need to completely submerge in the cold plunge to get its benefits?

A common beginner mistake with cold plunging is not going in far enough to submerge the neck. You want to be in enough so that the upper part of your neck is fully in the water, which will more fully activate the vagus nerve to enable a more full hormonal response, maximizing benefits.

Will I be losing water weight during contrast?

Yes, infrared sauna usage does cause water weight loss. While that water weight will be regained upon rehydration, the calories burned are real! As you relax in the gentle heat of our saunas, your body is actually hard at work pumping blood, increasing circulation and producing sweat to cool you down. This results in a caloric burn! Now add in your body doing the opposite by working to increase your internal temperature during the plunge, and you have yourself a metabolic stimulus like no other!

Is it true I am still burning calories up to an hour after my session?

Yes! By increasing your heart rate and core body temperature by 3 degrees in your session, it could take up to an hour to return to normal. We encourage you to stay active before or after your session if you want to maximize the calorie burn for weight loss.

Am I able to do contrast therapy with pre-existing health conditions?

While our services provide many health benefits, we do recommend consulting your physician prior to use especially to those with pre-existing health conditions. Do not use while pregnant, intoxicated, or predisposed to bleeding. Those with a fever, insensitivity to heat, or a pacemaker should avoid sauna usage. If you are on prescription medications, sauna usage may also alter the medication’s effect.
